Director Statement
Some stories don’t just live on the page — they take root in the hearts of readers. When I first read Anna Jane’s novel, I understood immediately: this isn’t just a book. It’s a shared emotional universe, built and protected by an incredibly passionate fanbase. Adapting it for the screen meant accepting a great responsibility — not only to the source material, but to every reader who has ever imagined these characters as real.
We had two months for principal photography. Two months to capture the pulse of a story that millions have carried inside them for years. That kind of pressure doesn’t leave room for indifference. Every day on set mattered. Every choice had to count.
Casting was the most delicate part of this journey. The characters already have faces in the minds of the fans — strong, detailed, beloved images. Changing them would have been a betrayal. We searched until we found actors who didn’t just play the roles, but inhabited them. Actors who understood that they were stepping into someone’s emotional memory.
Throughout production, we worked in close dialogue with the community that made this story what it is. We listened. We adjusted. We shared moments of doubt and joy. Filming in constant contact with the fans wasn’t just a strategy — it was a necessity. Because Your Heart Will Be Broken belongs to them as much as it does to us.
As for the future — yes, a second part is on our minds. The cast and crew feel deeply connected to this world now. We want to continue telling this story in full-length form, but the decision lies where it should: with the audience. If the response proves there’s hunger for more, we’ll be ready. We already dream of expanding Anna Jane’s universe further.
This film is a gift to those who loved the book first — and an invitation to those who haven’t met it yet. We made it fast, but not lightly. We made it with heart. And in the end, that’s all this story has ever asked for.
